Stewart Engineering History

Stewart Engineering is a family business dealing in overhead cranes and hoists. Ken Stewart, P.E. started Stewart Engineering in 1972 after working as a design engineer for Dresser Crane,(which ended up being Lift-Tech International) in Muskegon. He was a one man show with a lot of help from his wife Joyce operating out of their home for the first 11 years. Ken would do all the sales, engineering, and in many cases wiring of the cranes. All of the cranes where fabricated by Porter Steel & Welding.
In 1983 Ken moved the business to a small brick building on Getty St. conveniently located in front of Porter Steel & Welding. Ken’s oldest son Jim came aboard in 1993 as a Sales Engineer, with his younger brother Mike soon to follow in 1996. To accommodate their expanding customer base with three salesman on the road Stewart Engineering broke ground on the current location at 2140 Aurora Avenue. Up and running since the fall of 1996, Stewart Engineering shop is a state of the art 9,000 square foot fabrication facility allows for start up and fabrication of 3-6 cranes at a time. The facility is equipped with two radio controlled 7.5 ton overhead bridge cranes along with two Stewart wall crane welding machines.
The goal Stewart Engineering has always been to provide their customers with the best value for their dollar by giving them only the best components, engineering, and support in the industry. All Stewart cranes are designed with the customers needs in mind. Low maintenance costs and longevity are the best ways.
